Social institution

An institution is an organized form of customs, dogmas, rituals and procedures.  Every organization is dependent upon certain recognized and established set of rules, traditions and uses.

Characteristics

Definite objective, certain rules, definite procedure, collective activities of people, means of controlling people,  symbolic -works through symbolism, primary need of people are fulfilled by institutions

Importance

Binds the people, shows the right path,  controls over behaviour
